ABOUT

I am an up and coming Fashion Designer who wants to make a difference in the world and go against the normalities of society. My brand is a sustainable, inspirational brand that challenges boring everyday fashion and creates unique pieces that are extravagant and theatrical. The ethos for 'ACR RoseNotAThorn' is as follows:

The fashion industry as a whole is opaque, exploitative and environmentally damaging and desperately needs revolutionary change that is being implemented slowly by high end, high street and new brands. An 'ACR RoseNotAThorn aims to create a playful lifestyle full of texture and colour sustainably and ethically so that the fashion we love doesn't come at the cost of our people or our planet.

Textures, colour, handmade, sustainable and playful are at the core of the brand. Each garment is an individual piece of goodness that inspires high-street designers and consumers to wear sustainable clothing that is fun. 'ACR RoseNotAThorn' is not only a sustainable brand, but it is also an ethical brand that breathes life into the terrible fashion world that is vastly over consumed and needs revolutionising. The use of by-product fabrics and wool yarns merge to modernise sustainable clothing and create fashion-forward pieces that are notï_

Anna Catrin, what are your passion and aspiration in life? How did you start as a Designer?

My passions in life are colour and texture. I love feeling everything and using my senses to shop and design. I aspire to be a successful Fashion Designer who creates unique pieces that are extravagant and inspirational to others. They may not be wearable in every day, but they are interesting exciting to look at.

As a designer, I started at College, creating pieces that were for stage performances and not for everyday wear. Throughout my time at UAL I decided that I wanted to create collections that were inspiring and beautiful and from there I became a designer that is sustainable and ethical in their choice of fabrics and is colourful and bright in design.

Who is your inspiration in life, Anna Catrin? How do you stay inspired as a Designer?

I wouldn't say I have an inspirational person in life other than myself. How can you be happy and remain happy or inspired if you are not happy with yourself? True happiness and inspiration are found within because people come and go so you cannot rely on anyone else to inspire you or make you happy because if they leave, you wouldn't be inspired anymore.

So I stay inspired by ensuring that I am always content with myself and how I am living my life; from that, I find happiness and colour all around in everyday life. From there, I pour my rainbow mind into my designs.

We all make mistakes, Anna Catrin; we wish we could take back. What was the mistake you made in the past that you wish you can take back?

One mistake I have made as a designer is not pushing myself further, to achieve bigger and better designs that push the limits that are set by society.

I have made lots of mistakes, but so has everyone! I can't take them back, and I can't regret them. They are a part of what has made me who I am, and therefore, I will continue to learn and grow from my mistakes and find happiness in them.

Anna Catrin, How do you describe yourself in terms of working with clients?

I have always worked with clients and people as I worked in retail for 7 years, and therefore, my customer service skills are impeccable! I am professional and mindful when working with others as a team leader.

Please tell us Anna Catrin, how do you prioritise work, social life, friends, and family?

I believe in a steady balance of all aspects. The family should always come first, in my opinion, as they are the heart and soul of what has made me who I am. Closely followed by friends and work as those two aspects of life are loves that inspire me and fuel me. I love my friends, and I love my job, they are both passions that are equal in my life. Social life is important as it gives you the opportunity to catch up with friends, network and find new connections in life. But a social life comes with work and friends as I love my job and I love my friends they become a social part of my world.

Anna Catrin, please give us an example of a time when you were able to persuade someone to see things your way at work successfully.

Not at work but during my final year at London College of Fashion, I decided I wanted to use wool and textures to create my final collection. My tutor was against this as he said that it would be a colour overload that is sickening. I went against his ideas and stuck with my instincts as I wanted the collection to reflect my 'happy go lucky' lifestyle. In the end, he loved my collection and thought that it was a perfect reflection of my personality and presence as a designer.

Anna Catrin, please tell us about your proudest professional accomplishment as a Designer.

My proudest moment as a designer was my final collection photoshoot. Watching everything I worked hard to come together in one space!

Anna Catrin, please give us an example of a time you were able to be creative with your work. What was exciting or difficult about it?

The final photoshoot of my collection was a time when I could be creative and push the boundaries, throwing wool around, pushing models to excel in the clothing they had on.

The day was exciting as It was about my collection and watching everything I had worked for come together and be captured as the playful, exciting pieces that they are.

Difficulties included creating the fun atmosphere that the collection had to reflect.

What advice would you give to the people who want to be successful as a Designer?

I would say follow your instincts, take every opportunity that comes your way and pushes the boundaries! You never know unless you try. If the opportunity doesn't come knocking, build a door!!
